6.4 Remote maintenance via modem

Siemens offers a TS ada pter which can be used for remote maintenance. This adapter is connected

between the MPI connection of the PLC a nd a commercial modem. The programming device which is

also equipped with a modem can now communicate with the PLC via a standard telephone connection.

Instead of using the programming device to carry out the remote maintenance, you can also use the

bus server installed at a PC equipped with a modem.

In addition to the TS adapter for the PLC, the following software components are required for the PC

to carry out remote maintenance via a modem:

• Siemens TeleService software

• Siemens STEP7

Tip!

• The connection with the remote maintenance system always has to be established manually.

• The bus server may only be started after the co nnection has been established, otherwise

communication is not possible.
